Royal Purple 10w40 $4.99/qt
I was just shopping for some 10w40 oil for my next change and I found Royal Purple on Autozone's site for $4.99 a quart. I cross referenced the item number and all looks good. I had to pay $13.50 in shipping for 10 qts (not available for store pickup) but it is still a really good deal for a full syn oil. I have never used Royal Purple before but I hear that it is pretty good stuff.

Walmart carry them too, but forgot how much a quart.
|
I switched from Mobil 1 to Royal Purple about 3 years ago for my 2002 Base. I like it. Seems like the engine is a lot quieter at idle than with the Mobil 1. Someone posted an article on this forum several years ago where the authors did some type of bearing wear test with over a dozen different brands of oil. Castrol and Royal Purple kicked everyone's butt.
$4.99 is like stealing. At Pep Boys it is normally $9.99 a quart. Stock up! |
Thanks for the deal, man! Am tempted to buy some for my next oil change, but just got done doing one earlier.
|
How does this compare to Motul 8100 X-Cess ?
I use my car about 3000 miles yr .. lots of track / autocross duty .. and mainly driving to the track. Just paid $45 for 5L of 8100 shipped on Amazon but maybe I should cancel the order. |
Okay, just bought 2 jugs of Mobil 1 5w-30 for my daughter's Beetle (can you believe this takes synthetic?) at Autozone. They had a promotion - one jug and a filter for $33. These are going back and I just ordered 16 quarts of the Royal Purple (wanted to get the free shipping). This works out good - 6 1/2 for the Beetle and 9 1/2 for the Boxster.
Thanks for the heads up on the deal. |
I be lovin' that Royal Purple. My motor also runs much more quiet. I'm running it in my Bimmer now too.
|
Just ordered 20 liters. Good deal. Thanks for finding it.

It says "With Syntec" which to me hints that it is not necessarily 100% syntec and perhaps not even 100% synthetic oil. Can anyone confirm positively that the Autozone Royal Purple stuff meets the spec for our Porsche engines? Ray |
Good luck. They cancelled my 6 qt order.

WOW! Guess you are too late, I have an email confirming my order.... |

It doesn't look like Royal Purple is on Porsche's approved oil list. But they also frown on my BNC air filter, FVD software, techno torque plenum, 200 cell cats and even my Sirius receiver. Porsche-Approved Oils |
I complained after they cancelled my order, they gave me a $50 gift card as compensation.

They said the vendor was out of stock, but then didn't offer a raincheck, which would be standard practice, which is why I kvetched about it.

In other words, does anyone know how an oil becomes "approved"? |
I ordered some Royal Purple 3 days ago from Autozone and have not had the cancellation yet.
Perhaps they got more in stock? I'll update when I hear more. |

Royal Purple Synthetic
Went to Walmart and they have 10W 30 and 5W 30 in stock for $8.72 a Qt.

I just placed my order online, hoping they don't cancel the order. You would think that if they were backordered, then they wouldn't allow the order to take place...fingers crossed.
I used Royal Purple eons ago in my Boxster and I did get the seat of the pants feeling that the engine ran smoother and the revs built up faster (I am a diehard M1 user), but stopped the RP because of its ginormous price tag! Just fyi btw, Autozone is now offering a $25 gift card for every $100 spent. I ordered 41 quarts to get two $25 gift cards, which brings the price per quart to $3.78. You guys rock on this forum! |
Autozone canceled my order, as well.... Stated that they did to have in stock, nor any expected date to receive stock...
|
I ordered mine on the 19th like a few others here who have had their orders cancelled. I haven't received that notice yet, but also have not received an email that the oil has shipped. I missed the $25 gift card promotion. Had I known, I too would have ordered 21 or 41 quarts.
I know Mobil 1 is not favored on this forum but just in case, bought 2 jugs at local retailer. Mobil 1 has a promotion going on now ($12 rebate) that brought the cost down to $3/qt. |
Got my confirmation email with FedEx tracking number from AutoZone today that the 21 qts of Royal Purple 10W-40 that I ordered has just shipped. Hopefully, I'll get the $25 gift card in a few weeks. I noticed that the promotion has changed to only a $15 gift card now.
|
OK, I just tried again.... my first order got cancelled.
Fingers crossed! |
An update. I received an email a few days back that said they were backlogged. It didn't cancel the order, but gave me the option of waiting or cancel the order. With 41 quarts, I can wait ; )
BoxsTim: when did you place your order? |
986_c6,
I placed my order on 5/24/2012. I got a similar email from them on 5/28 with the options. I replied that I wanted to leave the order open until filled. |
My Autozone order of royal Purple from 5/20 has just shipped today. Its back in stock folks
|
Hahaha! What a joke! They cancelled my order again! I am on hold with Autozone customer service right now.

Long story short, she will get in touch with "order fullfillment" and let me know when I can expect the oil (22 quarts). They will honor price, gift card offer etc. Just to summarize- 1. first order accepted, then cancelled 2. second order accepted and then cancelled, this time "as requested", well I did not requested this. They also charged my CC! 3. called customer service and vented a bit, result above. Let's see............ Later, Andy |
Update: Just received my 41 quarts Royal Purple today. It is confusing how some people will get their orders cancelled and others will be fulfilled. Fyi, I didn't receive any shipping email or tracking # at all.
GL fellows! |
I know I'm a little late to the party but I did some research on this. AutoZone is still advertising Royal Purple Heavy Duty 10W40 for $4.99, ship to home only. Free ground shipping (3-5 business day delivery) and you get a $15 gift card for orders over $100.
I called Royal Purple and asked what the deal was with this price. What this Tech told me was late last year Royal Purple changed their formula because of an additive they can no longer acquire (EPA). Their guess for the reduced price AutoZone is offering is that they are clearing out stock. He told me that price is a killer deal and he had no idea AutoZone was selling it so low. As soon as I hung up I placed my order for 48 qts (4 cases) with ground shipping. |
Well well..... I still did not hear back afte they cancelled my 2nd order......
Keeping my fingers crossed! |
Didn't hear boo since placing my order but my 16 jugs showed up yesterday. I'm just sorry I missed out on the $25 credit with the $100 purchase. So is this stuff that good? Is it worth stocking up for future use?
|
Got my oil today, I'm one happy camper!
