97 Boxster Groans and Squeaks from undercarriage

Groaning/creaking from under car.Noise does not appear to be related to suspension. 61K miles. Breaks are good. I recall comments in past about creaking and groaning related to a heat or noise shield? Diagnostic or inspection suggestions/ ideas?
