passenger side window won't roll up

It's starting to look like rain here at work, so I went down to close the top. As I latched the top from inside (which would normally trigger the windows to roll all the way up), the driver's side functioned correctly, but the passenger side went down about 2/3's of the way.

From there, i tried to roll it up with the center switch, but it wouldn't budge; however, went I hit down it did roll the window all the way open, but it still wouldn't roll up.

I can hear the motor kick on when i press 'down', but nothing when I hit up.

Any thoughts? Thanks all

The first, and simplest, thing to eliminate is a possible malfunction of the switch itself. Swap the passenger side window switch with the driver's side window switch and see if the problem follows the switch. Conversely, you could take the driver's side switch and install it into the passenger side position and see it the window now goes up.

That would be my first step in troubleshooting this problem, and proceed from there.

Also, because the windows are controlled through the immobilizer, I would check for any moisture or water behind and under the driver's seat.

Regards, Maurice.

thanks for the tip. just tried it again and still the same, motor click down, nothing up. guess i'll have to run home now before it rains and start messing around with it...

oh by the way, no chance of moisture. car is always garaged at home and it hasn't rained in 3 or 4 days.

If the car has been out in the rain or has been washed, even in the last few months, it would pay to rule out the possible water/moisture issue under the driver's seat. The carpet under the seat, running to the rear firewall, has such thick foam that it can literally hold water for months and go unnoticed. In the meantime, it can slowly lead to corrosion of the circuit board inside the module, etc...

thanks for the tip! went out and verified that the carpet was dry, no problems there.

Looks like the problem solved itself, though. after letting it sit for a few minutes, i went back out again and started the car up. while running, the window functioned normally, so we're good to go. some type of wierd motor glitch or something...
