2000S won't start when warm after sitting

If I drive my 2000S for 15 minutes, let it sit for 20 minutes, it will not start. It will turn over but will not start. If I come back 2 or 3 hours later, it cranks up immediately. Any ideas?

Check your fuel pressure, pump may be dying.

You may be right but it is very consistant in that it start first time every time when it has been sitting for over 3 hours. If it has been driven and sits for 45 minutes to an hour it will not start. I agree that it sounds like it should be fuel related but I can't see how it could be dying so consistantly.

Sounds very similar to a crank position sensor problem.

When this happens, disconnect the MAF and see if it starts.
Happy Boxstering,

Thanks, I will try that this weekend.

I have a similar problem with my car....

It has never failed to start but it does seem to labor slightly (starter has to be engaged longer) when the engine is hot on a warm day and the car was just turned off for a short while. In the mornings when cold it has no issue. It is not all the time it does this though.

Very likely this.

When it won't start watch the rev counter when cranking to see if it moves even just a little, it's driven from the crank sensor.

I had something similar. Mech was very good. Accepting there are no codes, he described as either an injector, fuel pump or regulator. He pulled the regulator and it had signs of bad maintenenace from the past (rattled and was held togethr with tywrap). Swapped it out and its been fine since.
