Please Help... What are my Boxster's Aftermarket options?
 

It's just bought this 986 Boxster from a Dealer who knew nothing about it. all i know honestly is that its a 98 Boxster with a clean/perfect car-fax and 75k miles... with lots of aftermarket parts :)

"lots" is an understatement in my opinion...

1) those "vent" covers. (in my opinion very bad idea since the passenger side is exhaust and you're now funneling the outside air into the area where the engine fan is trying to vent hot air)
2) lowered
3) body kit
4) steering wheel
5) rims
6) 19" wheels
7) rear tail lights
8) passenger side mirror
9) funky half-covering on the amber of the headlight assembly
10) side markers look painted, instead of clear
11) brakes / rotors
12) rear spoiler
13) aftermarket radio

...

Thanks Tony, do you know what the parts or the style of the parts are? Like what style is the front bumper? What Break kit? etc..

somebody put quite a bit of work into the car. I actually bought my '02 S in Longview, right up the road from you! And I race MX at the clark county fairgrounds in the winter. I love that area where you live

Is the front windshield tinted, or is it just the photos?

Aside from what has already been mentioned, it looks like the roll hoops have been paint-matched or have had an overlay applied to them.

Seeing as so much of the car has not gone untouched, I would strongly recommend taking a look in the engine bay and seeing what's what in there, as well.

And have a look under the hood, which hopefully is still the original hood, to see if there is a label under there with several printed 3-digit numbers so you can see what the car came with from the factory. You could also just snap a shot of that and post it and someone here can very quickly tell you what they mean.

well said overdrive.... you hope that the sticker under the front hood is still there.
basically would tell what options came out from the factory...
it depends on what you want to accomplish.. putting it back to original or keeping some and/ or adding or deleting some..
now you can put your personal touch into the car...
it's just one of those things where a good car ends up on the wrong hands!
still not too late to save the car...

Could also be part of the Factory "Sport Touring" package, that included painted roll bars, wind blocker in the roll bar, leather/aluminum shift knob and e brake lever, silver gauge faces, hi-fi stereo, and cruise control. I think those were all part of the sport touring package, but it's been a while since I checked.

In addition to the non factory options it looks like you have the full leather interior, traction control, and the chrome exhaust tip.

The brake calipers look stock with silver paint added. Stock color would have been black. and the front rotors are aftermarket. Stock would not have been drilled.

Congrats on the new ride. It Looks like a good/clean car that was well enjoyed by the previous owner.

good catch on TC - i totslly missed that. also appears the guage faces were updated to white.

Looks like it had a rear wind deflector (M551 option code) but it was removed (unless it's in the storage compartment behind the seats over the engine. The mounting clips are there anyway.

This forum has once again demonstrated its incredible depth of knowledge and willingness to help out. I only have two comments. First, as said earlier, it is important to get those side scoops off ASAP. Pushing air into a hot air exit is just foolish. I think I would live with the car as is until you get to know it, and what you really want to do -- except for the painted side marker lights. They've got to go today.
Also, no one seems to have mentioned that a Car Fax is not a pre purchase inspection (PPI). A Car Fax only shows what people have reported. It is no guarantee of extensive body work, frame damage, etc. If it was done by a shop that doesn't report to CF you'll never know without a PPI.

Wow...somebody put a LOT of money into that car...conservative guess, parts/labor, 2800-3500$ Wish my S I just bought had been that tried out. Only think I would do different is the larger/lower/wider spoilers on the rear, and different wheels. Looks really cool...

When the fan is running on my car it is drawing air in, not out. Turn on the fan manually and I can feel it sucking air through the vent.

Now i'm getting confused. So it it good or bad?

I personally like those intakes......
