Down 3 ticks from April oil change normal?

while driving this HOT weekend my oil indicator pop'd up showing the oil level was down three ticks. Its been about 5,000 miles since my April oil change.
Seem abnormal to anyone?
Gotta find a place that sell the 0-40 up here. Went to three different Mobil 1 stations none of them knew what I was talking about "black cap?"

p.s. anyone know how many quarts three ticks equals?

I think Tool Pants said it was about a cup a tick.
P.S. renntech thread - It's more like 1 tick is a couple of cups and it's covered in the owner's manual.

Have you checked it stone cold? Ours shows it's low if we stop to get gas. In the morning, it's full.

I was at Wally world yesterday and they have 0W40 at ours so you may want to check there. They only carry the quart bottles of it.

As far as 3 ticks down, if it's that low after the car has sat overnight then it doesn't seem normal to me. We don't usually loose any oil between changes.

John is dead on with the digital oil check indicator. Gotta check it when the engine is cold. I've overfilled my engine with oil by checking it whilst the engine was hot.
Hey, I used "whilst" on a forum thread. That's a first.

That's funny. It made my evening! Sometimes I'm easily entertained.

I have a few questions. The Digital oil Check indicator only come's up with i fill it with gas, how do i get it to come up with out getting gas? The last time i filled up with gas the Digital oil indcator showed it was one tick under the minimum oil level, so i added a quart, is that too much? And finnaly what happens if you over fill the oil?

You turn the key without starting the engine. The manually comes in handy sometimes

1 bar - 1 cup (NOT QUART) of oil ... According to the High Priest of Boxster Forums and my idol, Tool Pants

If you checked it hot at a gas station fill up and it was one bar down, it probably didn't need any oil. The quart you put in will be burned off... don't make a habit of this though. It's expensive and probably not good for your engine.

(Tom, he might not have a manual in which to look!)

Assuming you don't have one, order a manual from your parts counter or better yet, Sunset Porsche as it will be far cheaper... I learned all sorts of stuff when I got mine and it was the best $35 I spent on my Boxster thus far.

Ya i bought my Box used last year and it didn't come with an owners manuel. I have always meant to get one, but just never got around to it.

3 bars or "ticks" would be about a half quart of oil and it is normal for the engine to consume that much in the time/mi you quoted.
