This one has the hang tag on it and the part number is clearly ledgible. Call your dealer to insure you can use it before you buy, but if you can get it on Ebay for less than oh, say Sunset can sell it to you for, you save!

I checked my Porsche dealer and to replace these keys costs about $240 total; so I am looking for alternatives. What is Sunset and are there other places to purchase the key? I'm not sure what the total savings are, since we still have to go to Porsche to get it activated.

Sunset's prices on any porsche part will be far cheaper than your local dealership from my experience. This key head will probably not sell for more than $125 on ebay so call Sunset and find out.

Programming was $50 (1/2 hour of labor) and the key blank was $25 at my dealership.

How do I contact Sunset?

I do not fill out the form because they take phone calls far faster. Just call them during business hours M-F and they'll be happy to quote you a price for the parts. Do ask if the price quoted includes the 15% surcharge over cost or is the actual price charged.

They are great people with which to work, have been very patient with me when I had no parts numbers, and were prompt to ship my parts when they were in stock.

Keep in mind there are three components to the remote key.

The remote, the key blade and programming. If you simply need a spare key, you can buy a Master for about $125 at your dealer. The master does all functions fine but has no remote features.

If you simply need the remote, you can reuse your blade. You will need to have the remote programmed by the dealer.

If you need the whole shebang, the above posts are on track.

Good luck.

OK
I have one remote key and one without a remote. I suppose that is the Master that you are referring to.
I would like an extra; but I guess it doesn't really have to be a remote if I can activate the alarm system with the Master
Can I use the master ($125) to activate the alarm system?
I haven't read the entire manual yet.

I have a 2004 Boxster S (500 miles)

I just tried it and the replacement key does activate/deactivate the alarm. So, I think I will get another one of those. If I ever lose the remote, I guess I could always have a remote feature added to the replacement
