Check engine light
Well, it sure was a good run. Nearly 2 years of trouble free boxstering!
Got a CE light a couple of days ago. P0153 Aging of Oxygen Sensor Ahead of Catalytic Converter (Cylinders 4 - 6) - Below Lower Limit P0154 Oxygen Sensor Ahead of Catalytic Converter (Cylinders 4 - 6) - Interruption of Signal P0341 Camshaft Position Sensor 1 - Signal Implausible, Short to Ground, Short to B+ P1397 Camshaft Position Sensor 2 - Signal Implausible, Short to Ground, Short to B+ P0102 Mass Air Flow Sensor - Below Lower Limit Borrowed a durametric cable and I'll clean the MAF and swap the O2 sensor to troubleshoot those codes, but the camshaft sensor codes make no sense. They're on opposite sides of the motor. So where do they lead and how do I access it to check the connection? |
When the time comes to replace the MAF sensor let me know . I found a source for inexpensive sensors . :)

Randall,
Did you have a low battery recently? These are pretty random and look more like a DME hiccup under low voltage than real codes. I would write them down, clear, and see if they come back. I let the batt in my car get real low once and it spit out random codes like this. I charged the batt, cleared the codes and they didn't come back. If they return look for a rodent nesting near your DME in the rear trunk. |
Topless, the car did sit at a body shop for two weeks and may have a low battery.
I shall use the durametric cable and software to clear the codes and see if that does the trick. Wouldn't that be nice!!!!! |
PM sent - brother .

Topless, I think you were right. I cleared the codes and a low voltage one too (that didn't show up on the crappy code reader Pep Boys used) and drove the car around a while today. No CE light. Trickle charger on the battery, btw.
I'll take it out tomorrow as well and see if the CE light returns. Pity is that if I took it to a dealer, I'd be out hundreds for a new MAF, possibly a set of O2 sensors, and a new overpriced German battery, huh!? |

I've learned through experience to clear any first-time code I get and wait for it to come back. More often than not they don't come back. On all my cars, not just the Boxster.

I know this is a bit old, but I would appreciate the source information as well.
Just came back from deployment, and my '01 is showing check engine. I forget the exact code at the moment, but it is an O2 sensor (will have to check again for which one). Thanks. |
