change brake calipers

Wondering if it is possible or cost prohibitive to change the brake calipers on an 02boxster. Currently they are black and would rather have red ones. Is it a straighforward job to have new ones installed? What about having the black painted red?

You can paint your existing ones, or you can upgrade the fronts to the "S" caliper and cross drilled rotors ("S" calipers and rotors must be used togeather, and you cannot use the "S" rears without spending more money on modifications to get ready for them than it is worth).

Jfp, mine has drilled rotors in front and back on a base. Does that mean I have S rotors? I do have 18" wheels but no idea if this is an factory upgrade or aftermarket. When I need pads what am I needing base or S.

Check out this link: pretty cheap route to red calipers. Also buy 4 white Porsche decals for them.

Measure the diameter and thickness of the rotors, the base and S are different sizes....

I painted my calipers red a few months ago. I used caliper spray paint, but I've heard good things about the epoxy.

One thing to note, make sure you clean, clean and clean again before painting. Most of the time spent on this project was cleaning brake dust off the calipers. I did it without disconnecting the brake lines.

Overall I love the new look! Some photos:

Around 6 months or so ago there was a very detailed DIY article in Excellence magazine on how to paint your calipers

Thank you for all of the advice!

I refinished mine with caliper paint and new decals. It is easier to clean and repaint them off the car.
