Boxster Coolant

2002 Boxster S

Just pulled it out of winter storage and drove it home. Smelled coolant, opened the trunk and coolant has come out of the tank and gone down the drain.....

It was fine when I parked it - any ideas?

TIA

did you check under the carpet. tank is cracked

Carpet is dry. It appears that the coolant came out the cap, there is big ring on condensation on the underside of the trunk lid bordered by the gasket on the top of the reservoir.....

Typical symptoms of a cracked coolant reservoir. You need to pull up the carpet off the floor of the trunk. If you see coolant, its the reservoir.

There is no coolant under the carpet, it all went down in the catch basin.

Do you have the updated coolant cap? The old style ones fail frequently.
If I remember correctly, the new one ends with a -04 on the part number.

Whats the catch basin? Theres a vent that dumps coolant next to the rt rear wheel, but no catch basin that I know of.

I am talking about the gasketed tray that oil cap and coolant cap reside in.

cap's probably bad then. they're known to not be so great especially the original ones

Is this something I can grab at my local VW dealer (he asked hopefully)?

And actually cheaper from the dealer than on eBay....$29.84. Really out of my way though..... sigh.
