ChrisZang's post is a good reminder why Porsche owners should be doing Used Oil Analysis. Just a thought.

Thanks for posting this OP, saved me the trouble.

Saw the same thing in the filter of my newly purchased Boxster over the weekend and was beginning to get a little concerned. Now, my mind is free to concentrate on driving the wheels off it. 10 days to my first HPDE.

Really, how many? We'd love to know that number. You must have the inside scoop. Cool beans.

I don't know the number but I've been driving M96 cars for more than 10 years. Porsche didn't start selling internal engine parts until the 997s came out, or right about that time. Until then you had two choices: (1) a porsche dealer replacement engine, or (2) a motor out of a wreck. The forums were full of guys who had their engines replaced, both in warranty, and then out of warranty. I wish I knew the number, but Porsche isn't sharing. Once Jake and Charles got involved we suddenly had many options, including preventative measures. The 15k mile oil change may or may not contribute to failures, but the guys who fix them that don't work for Porsche, believe it does, so I'll go with that and keep changing mine every 5k. I haven't lost one yet, but knowing the possibility I have taken every measure available as soon as it became available, and now I feel pretty good about being as bullet proof as you can get with an internal combustion engine.
