Puff of blue smoke?

Fellas (I mean that gender neutral),

Do you get that puff of oil smoke after startup in the morning? Normal for a new one?

deliriousga 08-17-2005 05:17 PM

Yep. Every morning since we've had it. I think it's the stuff that accumulates in the oil separator overnight.

Maybe Mr. Lee or Tool Pants can enlighten us to that. :D

I kind of like it...smells good and reminds you it is a Porsche.

KRZTACO 08-18-2005 08:03 AM

There's nothing better than the turn of the key and the sweet smell of burning oil in the garage. As once again, your reminded your driving one of the finest automobiles in the world, Porsche.

same here .is not easy to start the car and jump out and see if it happen again

Rail26 08-19-2005 06:20 AM

I had my wife start the car today so I could watch. I think she will be starting the car again tomorrow. Now if she could only quit rolling her eyes at me.

Brucelee 08-19-2005 06:26 AM

Normal! Same on 911s.

Ronzi 08-23-2005 08:09 AM

My old '81 911 would smoke like a clapped-out Fiat if you let it sit for about a week and then started it. Usually. Every once and a while it would start with no smoke at all. Go figure.
The Box smokes a little occasionally, but most if the time it starts without smoking, or at least without smoking enough to see in the side mirror.
Just look at it as one of those endearing qualities of the car, like the little puddle of oil underneath the rear main bearing of my '64 MGB.

Brucelee 08-23-2005 08:12 AM

My MGB never had little puddles. Large large ones!

Ronzi 08-23-2005 08:17 AM

Mine started out as a large puddle, but after rebuilding everything between the radiator and the driveshaft, it is now down to a little puddle.

really, I had greyish white smoke coming out of my car on occasion when it sat for a day or two

Brucelee 08-28-2005 05:54 AM

Rebuilding and MGB go hand in hand.

I did love that car though! Such fun to drive with the top off.
