Also a thought to keep in mind is to buy enough of the same leather for all your projects in mind (present and future) so that you will match.

One site that will sell the entire hyde for auto and color match with your car if you like: Hydes Leather - Premium Automotive Leather

I just sat down with the books at the upholstery shop and chose from the samples. the black on the doors was a smooth leather and I thought it came out better than the original. The seat inserts didn't look that great and I ended up using Wet Okole seat covers most of the time, but it was presentable enough when I sold it. I should have used leather on the seats, but the cost of the leather was prohibitive for that much material, but would probably have been cheaper than buying the seat covers later. It took very little material to do the doors. I wish I had kept it though. It had 120k miles on the original engine and was a fully loaded 97 in the classic colors. If I had known Jake was working on M96 motors at the time I would have kept it. The 97s drove differently being lighter, the steering seemed quicker too. I'd love to have a 3.6 in it. I got a Anniversary edition Harley Fat Boy + cash for it so I did OK. I bought the 01S a year or so later.

Some of this work I might try doing myself, in other cases I'd like to buy the leather and give it to someone to perform the work. But I need some guidance as to what kind of leather Porsche used in my car. I'm figuring on heading to a Tandy leather store soon, and I want to know what to look for.

If I want to match the leather on my dash and door panels, what are we talking about? Top grain? Full grain? What Porsche installed seems fairly grain-free.

If I wanted to upgrade to what Porsche terms "smooth leather" on some surfaces, or my steering wheel, what is that? Is it really lambskin?? Or is it "garment leather"?

Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

I just redid my interior with E & D Tops, 107-17 Merrick Blvd, Jamaica, NY 11433 tel 718.523.3529 , Queens, owners name is Edgar. I posted the pictures before which are in the forum under new interior. Work came out great used black leather with red stitching on both seats, new shift boot and embroidered the Porsche logo in the headrests. Total for the work came out to $ 1,400. Each seat he charged $400 each, embrodiery $ 385, the shifter I believe was 50, and tax was the rest. Very happy with the work it took three days for the work. The end result is posted in February I believe.
