Homelink HELP! Chamberlain opener

Ok - I'm about ready to blow a gasket. I've done Homelink on at least half a dozen cars. I understand how to do it for standard and rolling codes - clear the buttons, hit one to get the slow flash, hold the remote in front of the car, after do the learn button, etc.

My 987 works on a standard code (gate opener) but not on my Chamberlain. I get the three foglight flashes on my gate opener remote, but not on my Chamberlain garage door remote.

It works just fine with my BMW and Infiniti - not the Porsche.

Any ideas? There must be a trick out there that I am missing beyond waving it in front of the car, clicking a million times, standing on my head scratching my belly and playing Zamphir in the background???
