Various Estimates

Hi Everyone

Just got a quote for a few various "issues" on my 2001 Boxster Tiptronic with 105,000 miles on it. Just thought it would be a good idea to post the cost of various repairs just in case anyone is ever wondering about cost of xyz. These are from an independent shop in the deep south. Not sure how competitive the prices are, but as I said, its just an estimate and just FYI for others who might be looking to compare prices for their fixes.

Key Head Remote - $330 (I've found a cheaper price already for this at $220)

Spark Plug Tubes and Seals - $330 installed

Wiper Blades $45 (HA!!!!)

Radiator Fan Resistor $385 installed

4 axle CV Boots $915 installed

Door Latch Accessory $650 installed

Just FYI if anyone is wondering how much things might cost, better to have at least something to compare a price to than nothing....

Here are some comparable estimates:

Spark Plug Tubes and Seals - $330 installed
Should be more like $200-$250. Parts are ~$80. Labor = 1hr. Or do this yourself, its pretty easy.

4 axle CV Boots $915 installed
Should be more like $700. Parts $200. Labor is about 4 hrs = $500.

I need a new remote/key head too. Sun coast has one for $129.00. Dealer quotes approx. $140 to program.

I was quoted $220 at Sun Coast

Spark Plug Tubes and Seals - $330 installed
Did mine for about $50, seals only, tubes where perfect

Wiper Blades $45 (HA!!!!)
Sounds right. Pelican Parts Bosch Blades $23.95

Radiator Fan Resistor $385 installed
Ouch...must have been the dealer. Pelican Parts $117 each.

4 axle CV Boots $915 installed
just had mine quoted for boots and replace the TIP tyranny axle seals $1013.

Door Latch Accessory $650 installed
Ouch...must have been the dealer

I planned to use my existing blade since the remote is dead. Dealer couldn't cut a key. Told me that it needed to be ordered.

@ CVStarboxster

I had it done at a local indy shop here, I didn't need a new key cut, just the remote head wasn't working. They did it for $220, new head, works great.

Also, thought about doing the sparkplug tubes myself but have read different post on here about doing the job and some seem to have a ton of trouble and some seem to do it without much fuss.....so I'm undecided at this time.

Also, I had a new radio installed with satelite radio(SirusXM). Left the factory speakers in which my boxster had the 6 speaker set up with the two behind the your head, two in the doors and two in the dash and factor amplifer. Now that the new radio is in, they seemed to have wired my dashboard speakers as the front speakers, the rear speakers as the rear speakers and the door speakers as the sub speakers so basiclly, I'm not getting full sound because now my door speakers which used to kick pretty hard(or at least good enough for me) RARELY come on. Any insight would be appreciated. Maybe I will put this into a new post....

FWIW, I'm bringing by '01 S w/ 61.5k in for IMS, Water Pump and 4 axles/CV replace next week.

Estimates from my local indy are:

IMS - $1900
Water Pump - $516
4 CV - $598

Not sure if he is on the high side or the low side, but he's my only local option besides dealership.

I paid $22 for Inner Tie Rod and $65 for installation.

I paid $86 for an oil change at MIDAS.

I paid $80 for alignment at a place called Grease Monkey.

I paid $0 for the rubber band that fixed by interior door knob with no visible rubber band since I put it in the door.

I paid $25 for Xenon head light bulbs.

I paid $7 total for many tail light bulbs.

I paid $600 for water pump with labor included.

I paid $300 to replace rear plastic window only. Original top.

So it's ok to have an oil change at a place other than a dealership or a foreign car service center ? That would be great!

Could you send a picture of your rear plastic repair ? I have heard all over the place that it was virtually impossible to repair these and would love to prove them wrong.

Yeah. Even JiffyLube would do it-I used to work there. I have always used Pennzoil in the past since it is cheap.

I don't believe in only going for a certain brand. If its 0w-40 or 5w-40, brand doesn't matter.

I had my plastic rear window repaired a few years back, it cost about $300 if I remember correctly, and it still looks great. My top is still in great shape so I just replaced the window. 2001 Boxster with 107,000 on the dash....
