six years with the 986 and maybe two downpours, just have to pull over when it clouds up instead of pressing on, besides, I'm sure after you do it 100 times you get better at it. I agree its cumbersome but it's a lot easier than a camper canvass on a 26 sundancer, just need to keep a beach towel in the trunk!

Dont let anybody rain on your parade GR. Its super SICK and we all want it. LOL

Great job and congrats. Someday I would love to have that car.

For reasons unknown Porsche would not finance me, do you guys think 3% is a good 60 month rate from a credit union?

WOW!! What a great rate! You should see what they would give you on a mortgage refi.

I agree. That sounds like a great Auto rate.

The car looks amazing....

Just like I would order one...white with black rims. When the spyders first came out I was not too fond of the speedster humps but it has really grown on me and I love how the car is kind of a mini GT3 in it's purpose. I just hope their are some nice used ones still available when I can eventually afford one.

Reports from every Spyder owner that I've seen, here and other places, report no speed limits due to the top. That's a great looking car Ghost. One everyone here would be proud to own. I love the speedster rear cover.

Wow looking at your pics.....I can hear McCartney singing the words!

skota 02-15-2012 07:40 AM

bravo, awesome car. congrats

madmods 02-15-2012 08:51 AM

man... is this a joke or what... a 685 steps removal and install roof design that eventually need to slam on your bonnet's paint job? and stretches using A10 Warthog jet alike emergency release 'red' handles? You got to be kidding me... NO, I would never buy this car but instead move up in the Porsche food chain right away. Disgusting.... can't imagine one minute my wife, my girlfriend and both sisters together to be able to bear removing that thing... or even less putting it back.

Try to picture the onlookers' face when you do those amazingly complicated and methodical procedures. Real potential for being hilarious....

Besides, the guy in the vid, yea that's right.... that was too much btw. Spooky looking dude

The best part about it is I can tell how important it is to you and how good it makes you feel owning
it. That's what this is all about anyway, ain't it ?

Enjoy the Livin ******************** out of it Ghostrider.

Ghostrider 310 02-15-2012 09:55 AM

Thanks you guys I will tell you true I came very close to backing out, man P cars are a hard signature.

Regarding the top, the handle with the screw hook tensioner looks very UN Porsche like..

same here. I think I've been caught out twice in all these years. If its on the highway I just lay on the throttle and and I stay dry in the cockpit.

The one downer to the bikini top is the ruffling at highway speed. But that simply encourages you to drive top down with the heat up. I have a rule if the ambient temp is above 55 the top is down. But in retrospect a simple Miata style manual top made of ultra light materials running on a simplified ball bearing track would have been a far more practical engineering exercise and increased sales. But to their credit a motorized soft top(lazy convenience) on any sports car really is contradictory.

There is no moving up in the roadster food chain. You'd have to go into another category of Porsche and those don't handle as well as the Boxster Spyder...unless you go full on GT3 and there's no top down driving in that scenario. Oh and you're not doing much of many other types of year round driving in the GT3 either. Improper alignment in the wet on a nervous car? No thanks. Also, the Boxsteer Spyder was quicker than the Cayman R in one test with an ALMS driver on a karting track, every last lap was easier and faster.

Also, this car wasn't designed with your ball and chain (female passenger) in mind.
Which makes it all the more brilliant. If you want to keep the female unit happy buy a Cayenne. This is a sports car.

Awesome car! I rode along in my friends Spyder that looks exactly like yours and it was incredible. Actually, watch this video from the track last weekend and you'll see his Spyder out on the track in front of me at about 2:40 into the video: http://986forum.com/forums/video-center/33857-racing-around-willow-springs.html

Ghostrider 310 02-15-2012 01:54 PM

Gotta love P-lap, I was thinking the same thing, I don't want anyone else driving it anyway. As for the top which flusters everyone, all I can say is there must be a big fanclub for the spyders because they sell in 7-10 days used. My 986 had the top down so much I only raised it to prevent the window from getting a line in it.

PS I'll bet good money a Ducati owner would find that top Sweeeet in the rain.

WhipE350 02-15-2012 08:41 PM

Ya they had two of em over here in Charlotte both low miles. Folks buy them and decide quickly they don't want em. They sell fast once traded in though. I'd take one in a second, was looking the other night and there aren't that many in the whole country. I hate driving my 986 with the top up anyway, I'd be just fine with this beauty. Only time black rims look good is on a white car...they look sweet.

986_c6 02-19-2012 12:36 AM

Only other Boxster that would replace my 986 would be the Spyder. Either I missed it or late at night, but is this one a manny or PDK unit?
