987 is 36% less reliable than 986 Boxster!!!
The stinkers list - 10 model series that were less reliable than the previous model
^Check this out! Same goes for Vw Golf and Ford Fiesta. |
Friend who works for a large company says VW customer perception is one of quality but in truth he said the vehicle build quality is poor.
|
Honestly, I don't think these list remotely reflect reality. Loads of variables and factors not accounted for.
|
I don't know about this particular study but certainly there are metrics that are genuine and when those metrics are scrutinized VW is not on par in quality.
|
I agree in the sense that most older cars have better quality than newer cars.
There are trashed $1000 cars from the 80's and 90's who's quality is better than newer cars. For example. A new VW Golf has a low quality interior that scratches easily from keys and the top of steering wheels get sun damaged easily. A 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gen Golf's interior is usually spotless. Maybe dirty, but without any imperfections, cracks, scratches, or sun damage. Same goes for bumpers and body panels. Older cars had stronger bumpers that did not scratch or dent as easy as newer cars. |
yes but the forgot to disclose that AOS, IMS, RMS, Coolant tank and water pump were excluded from consideration. minor stuff.

i read an interesting stat (in a porsche ad, of course) that 70% of porsches ever made are still on the road. very cool if true, but i wonder how much the m96/97 variants skew that result as there seem to be A LOT of boxsters getting parted out.

The question for me is, "would this stop me from buying a newer Boxster?" No. As long as I can afford to put the $$$ into it. Once I cannot, then I sell it and buy......!!!???:dance::dance:

Not many statistics to back up their claim, but if it's on the Internet it must be true. All I know is the 2.5 yrs I owned my 01S it was one thing after another that needed fixing. Luckily most of it was covered by CPO. In the 4 yrs I've owned my 987S, it's only had 1 problem that was covered by warranty (water pump). My 987S has also been one of the most reliable new cars I've ever owned.
|
And others of us found the '01S to be the most reliable car we owned in the last 40 cars of varying makes, models and countries of origin (yea I'm old and I buy for a few folks) going back to 1930 as the oldest car and 2011 as the newest.
My '99 was flawless for the 5 months until I did something stupid and totaled it. But my sample set is pretty small.. |

I wonder if a flat tire and no spare is calculated into the equation? My Finlandia Boxster is still being diagnosed at Jakes, last I heard he thought it might be one of the main bearings.
|
I wonder how the 996 and 997 compare?
