New to 986 Forum
Hi everyone,
I've been a member of Rennlist since 2005 with my first Porsche, a 944, under my username Phi1720 and have noticed low traffic in their 986 forums since buying my 2002 Boxster S last year. I decided to create an account over here at 986forum since I've lurked over here with no registered account until now.
So, I'd like to introduce myself here to the 986forum community. I've just reached one year of ownership in my 02 986S in Raleigh, NC and have loved every second of it. I truly miss my 85.5 944, but have been making many fond memories in my first flat 6 Porsche.
In an effort to bring my 986forum account up to speed with my Rennlist account. I've attached some pictures below of my Boxster, DE time at VIR, and DIY IMS replacement last summer.
Cheers!
Scott

Welcome to the forum, it's always nice to have another skilled hand about (not me though).
Good job on your track tape job! I always pick the number 02, but it comes out looking like 0Z!

Welcome! Always happy to have a new member. I picked up my 2.5 in November but joined many years ago to ask questions and do research.
Like someone else asked what was the circumstances that made you decide to do the IMS? How many miles are on your S?

Thanks guys!
Nothing special regarding IMS replacement. I'm an engineer and was mostly curious. Additionally, the Boxster is my only daily driver. I didn't think it would ever fail, but also couldn't stomach an engine replacement considering the low cost of bearing replacement under my DIY rather than paying a shop. The car had 73k on it when I bought it a year ago and now has 86k.

Why aren't there any good DIY'ers up here in Massachusetts who could help with an IMS replacement ????

Not bad for a noob...tons of pics, and using the car the way it was meant to be used. Welcome my friend!
I noticed the IMS recommendation was for no diy'ers. Of course you have their nifty tool kit, was it as hard or simple as changing oils/spark plugs? or more difficult like clutch jobs?

Really? Theres a reason people do a clutch while they do it, because you're already there. Its one of the hardest jobs on these cars. besides like a headgasket which is quoted at like 23 hours or something ridiculous lol. I think the flat rate quotes 11 hours to do an IMS bearing on those cars. +1 hr to do a clutch and RMS.
Not comprable to doing an oil change/ spark plugs lol. :P

I Thought it was VIR. I'm registered for 3/16 to 3/18 dates this year. Maybe I'll meet you there.

I'll be there with friends, but unfortunately won't be driving this time. Hopefully by mid-summer I'll have budget allocation from my boss at home!
Hope to see you there!
