Throttle Body Test

Is there a proper way to test a used throttle body for proper function before it goes in the car....er em my car or at least before the engine gets buttoned up.

I would think you plug it in and watch the butterfly move with help of a buddy but the engine wouldn't be running. Wouldn't want to screw up any synchronization/throttle position

How would you do that on e-gas throttle?

Perhaps the same way you test and calibrate a throttle positioning sensor (with an ohm meter).. ?
