In-dash CD Caddy (4 disk)
Is this typically a seperate option or does this usually come with the Bose or some other package. I found a Boxster S that I am interested in purchasing and it seems to have most options except this. I am wondering if this is a sign that some package may be missing from this car.

I have it, but I believe the PO said it was a seperate option.

Are you talking about the 4-cd "storage compartment" or is this a CD changer magazine?
If it is the storage compartment, I suggest you not have that affect your car search in the least. IMO, it is the most useless option offered on the car (this from one who ordered it for original delivery...). |
the cd tray also elimates 50% of your dash storage for sunglasses, cigarettes, remotes for your garage, cell phone, etc.
Mine doesn't have one and I just love my twin cubbies as they're very valuable storage real estate. |
I'd like to get rid of my 4 disc storage and replace it with a nice cubby. Where can I get a cubby replacement?
|
The cubby is available at the dealer for about $30. Nice feature, as I hate the CD holder, which is also available at the dealer, for about $30.
The CD holder missing in your car DOES NOT mean much. Many folks replace these with cubby's as they find the holder useless. Personal choice. |
CD Holder Replacement
I just ordered the cubby from my local dealership and replaced the CD holder. This is a 30 second operation requiring no tools, and I love it. The second cubby is invaluable for sunglasses, remotes, and various other assorted junk you don't want rolling around loose in your car.
One word of caution, make sure you get the right cubby. The top and bottom are different. |
You say its an easy change - can you elaborate?
I'll pick up the cubby at the parts counter for $39 and install it myself. Swap it out for the 4 CD holder. Just give me a few hints on the install... Anybody want a 4CD holder? Thanks |
If your service dept is like mine, they have a long slim piece of aluminum that they will insert to the side of the exisiting CD holder. This will allow you to "pull" each side out a bit. Once that is done, you can just grab and pull the CD holder and it will come out.
The new one fits in with pressure. You will see two little tabs that insert into the console. Takes like 60 seconds all told. Hope that helps. |
