Leaking antifreeze
 

Hello, my 2000 boxster is leaking antifreeze, I think, it's a greenish color with and orange tint. It's winter and very cold where I live. I don't realize if that has anything to do with it. But I was wondering what could be causing it and what the solution is.

Totally depends upon where it is leaking from...............

Yes. Where are you seeing the leakage? Right rear corner on the ground, vs. in the trunk... Etc.

It seems to be dripping down from the middle of the car, and it doesn't seem to be a constant leak.

Time to put the car up in the air and find the leak.

If the leak is from the centre of the car (ie under the engine) it could be the water pump, thermostat or one of several rubber connection hoses.
As Paul suggested, untill you get under the car you are guessing - and guessing or leaving the problem to sort itself out is not a very wise decision....
Just make sure the coolant level is not too far off the max mark in the expansion tank !!

Don"t drive it at all until you figure out whats wrong with it. from your description, you've already seriously overheated it twice. These cars will grenade quickly if they overheat.

I would be very careful until the leak is identified but, where did you get this?

i havent driven it since i noticed the problem, but i started it up today, and the far right end of the engine temperature gauge started to flash, but the needle wasn't in the high temperature area, the light came on like how the gas gauge does when your almost out of gas. i think I'm just going to take it to the shop.

That light is trying to tell you the coolant level is low, add some before starting the car.

Noah. These things are pretty sensitive and my sincere recommendation is to thoroughly read your owner's manual and make sure you know the significance of your dash lights. It could help you avoid serious damage and repair costs.

Is there a certain type of cooler/antifreeze I can or can not add specifically?

Yes. One that is compatible with what you currently have. Don't know what that is? You'll have to try to match it... or better.... take this opportunity to do a complete flush and restore it to factory spec. Porsche anti-freeze is incompatible with many other products on the market.
