Why wasn't this ever made?

got it from:The first sports car among roadsters. - Road Vehicles | Porsche

My Question is why didn't they make this. It looks so good. I would love to get that in my garage. So just wanted to share that with everyone.

-need for more storage space
-sharing parts with the 911 which needed to be bigger
-realities of manufacturing in volume
-functional and weather proof top
-crash worthiness

But I wish they'd have ignored all that and built the darn thing. It's the nicest looking and probably would have been the most fun modern Porsche available.

You Know its not that different from the first generation boxsters. I mean they could have kept the side mirrors on the door, the front bumper, the low air intake and even the wheels, the back end is quite different, but its a real shame it wasn't put into production. If i had been at porsche i would have released this car as the third genration porsche. Definitely would have been epic.

It's about 10 inches shorter, a couple inches lower. It's closer in size and weight to the Miata than the 986.

Lack of roll bars and the thin A-pillars would also be a no go.

Well lets imagine that I were to buy this exact bumper, lower my intake vent, and move the side mirrors to the door. That would drastically change the image of the standard boxster. Those features are what make this particular concept look nice. Now if we talk about the back part of the car its much more complex. I don't know how hard it would have been to make that rear end or how safe it is or even how practical it is. Those small features that could have been kept. Just saying, at least the new boxster has the mirrors on the doors so thats a plus.

Ignoring specific measurements, it does look like a Boxster. Not different enough to think of it as anything else.

well, you can get one of these front bumper covers which is similar ...

BOXSTER SEBRING FRONT BUMPER PANEL | eBay

and a set of these side skirts which are similar ...

Duraflex FRP Porsche Boxster G-sport SIDE SKIRTS Fits Body Kit 97-04 NEW IN BOX | eBay

and perhaps get yourself somewhat there (but not really ...)!?!?

Yes, this is my dream car.

I wish that Porsche had gone "back to the future" using this as the basis for the new 2013 Boxster redesign!

I don't know Jonny, even though this isn't yellow you have to admit if it were made, the yellow version would be quite a show stopper.

I really like that front bumper on eBay that you posted, Radium King. I wonder if anyone on this side of the pond sells it.

Correction: I'd really like it if they sold it on this side of the pond AND it had an access hole for a tow hook!
