Flying lava rock 101.....

Bad news on the way home today.....Going down the Mamalahoa Hwy. today and out of nowhere a bunch of medium to large size lava rocks were all over the road......Avoided them, but someone coming from the opposite way didn't, and nicked a large one which flew about 10 feet in the air and just clipped my front end.....Damage below ......Made a claim and waiting to hear back now.....

Guess I should consider myself lucky in a way, the boulder was almost the size of my head, and if I had been more forward when it hit, it could have conked me on the noggin(my top was down)....

Does this look like a replacement job? The front bumper that is...

Sorry, just had to tell someone, I am supposed to be moving in 3 weeks as well....Oh well ....

Lou

Glad you're ok!

Replace it. Especially if the insurance company is handling the repair. They need to put it back in original condition. Make sure they use the flex agent in the paint too. They may try to cheat because the stuff is expensive, but the first little rock and you'll have a big spider web on the bumper.

Hope it goes well!

Thanks John, I was hoping that would be the case.....All might work out OK, the front bumper has a bunch of chips anyways, so this will straighten that out as well...

Thanks for the good wishes!

Lou

Wow, that sucks...glad your ok! If it makes you feel any better, a tractor trailer tire exploded as I was passing the truck today. Luckily, the tire blew backwards with the speed and missed the car. It sounded like a shotgun right next to my ear.

Cool

Glad you're OK, of course, but you've gotta be the only one of who has to worry about dodging lava!

Regarding the tractor trailer blowout, I really wish retreads were made illegal. How many times do we have to dodge pieces of tire retreads that fling off trucks?

Just my opinion...

While your replacing the bumper might want to consider an upgrade!

Retreads suck. I'm sure there is some trucker out there that is going to put his $.02 in about retreads save money thus making goods we buy cheaper and yada yada yada. I guarantee the money I am saving divided by 250 million Americans isn't enough to pay for a new front end.

I'm also down here with all the NAFTA trucks that do not have to meet American specs, it's like running the gauntlet on I-10. Bull****************zasku!

Thanks for all the kindness people!
Appraiser comes out tomorrow , so things are moving along on that front....

I have looked at front bumpers like that GT3, and quite frankly, I like the less vented look that the stock bumper has.....The GT3 doesn't look bad, just not as good in my opinion.....I WOULD consider adding that little lip spoiler on the bottom tho, think it would look pretty cool.....

On truck retreads....its a funny thing that you mention it, about a 1/2 mile up from where I got hit, I saw some truck retreads off to the side of the road.....Maybe a truck filled with these rocks started to lose its load before blowing out! I hate those things too, I see them frequently on the roads out here...
