ok I drove my friends car today 500SL on a stretch of road I know well from a radar perspective. He's got the escort (wireless).
Works great, but once you get used to those V1 arrows(oh sooo accurate) you will miss them!

I guess its like driving a Standard 911 and then driving the 911S, you'll never miss
what you never had.

btw, I take my 986S over that $100K merc any day...

SD987, I did keep the V1 (it will be the wife's early Christmas present, and be rewrapped no doubt if I know her). I have not hardwired it although that will certainly follow.

I think I will put the remote display on the left side of the instrument cluster on the dash just under the inspection stickers on my windshield. It can't be seen from behind there and will be near eye level. I will say the remote display isn't nearly as easy to use when it resides on the plug down by the stereo system. I tried it there and glancing down all the time instead of looking up for the cop was not efficient.

I placed my remote box directly below the speedometer and tucked the telephone wire underneath the steering wheel and behind the center console.
Its a good spot because I can in one glance see the location of the radar and check against my current speed. THe gauge cover also covers any flashing lights that migh reflect off the windshield and attract the attention of Mr. Police man.

I had my Satellite Radio Tuner hard wired and it produced allot of alternator whine which became unbearable. I diconnectd the hardwiring and now use a two prong cigarette lighter for the V1 and the Sirius Tuner. I only get alternator whine now when the AC is on...weird.

Perfectlap, can you take a pic of that remote placement for me and tell me how you affixed it to the space in which it resides? I'm having a hard time visualizing it.

My V1 remote is mounted under the dash by my right knee so I can see it looking down through the steering wheel. It is unobtrusive yet also shaded so no problems on bright days. The mute button isn't too awkward although I am going to add a dash switch to turn it on and off (it will always come on with the ignition but I'll be able to overide it).

The power comes from the becker harness behind the console, the actual V1 is wired around the windshield frame to the mirror. As I don't need to see the actual V1 it is mounted so I can only just see it, but the rear facing radar is unobstructed.

My V1 switch is coming along, as are the James Bond switches for OBC, Spoiler and Garage door opener!

the remote box is directly to the right of the seat belt or check engine light (which ever one the second one in this pic below is)
there's just enough room for the box to fit under the RPM gauge.
I tucked the telephone cord from the box to the cigarette lighter underneath the dash in bewteen where the carpeting meets the dash paneling. You can also run it behind the center console so that it comes out on the passenger side footwell and tuck the excess wire between the carpeting and the dash paneling.
