MSRP for MY 2006 Boxster S

is now $54,700 in the US, up from $53,100 for MY 2005.

The MSRP for some of the options also has gone up.

Full Leather is up $50 to $2,095.

Bose w/ windstop is up $100 to $1,090.

An electronic Tire Pressure Monitoring System is available for the first time in 06 for $590.

Other option prices in 06 are the same as 05, such as metallic paint $825, floor mats $115, power seats $1,550, sport steering wheel with smooth leather $740.

They are indeed proud of their cars. I gotta give them that.

Yep, I had to pay $115 for floor mats. Kind of ridiculous isn't it...?

I wonder if Porsche sales departments can be manipulated the way I've done it at the Lexus store across the freeway.

I got into the finance office and said I didn't want the CPO car in between signatures. Said it just wasn't a good deal. Finance guy got so red in the face he had to leave the room.

Came back in with the sales manager and asked me what would get me to sign the rest of the papers and complete the deal.

Told him that I needed the next THREE service intervals paid for (2100.00 in total) and a new set of floormats... and I wouldn't take possession of the car until I had it in writing and the mats in the car. My argument was these were very soft costs for them and very HARD costs for me.

Mats were transferred from a new car's trunk. I made the service manager sign three business cards authorizing the services before I signed anything else.

Doing the deal AGAIN in the middle of the signing process really screws with their little delivery process... they just don't expect anyone to stop signing papers and will try to accomodate you just to get back on track. Try it!

All they can do is tell you to have a nice day, and then you can say "Just kidding! where are those papers to sign?"

Richard, I promise not to do this to you when I buy my next Boxster from you... as long as the price is fair in the first place :)

Buying cars can be the most frustrating thing in the world until you just emotionally detach yourself from the purchase, view it as a high stakes game, and remain in control of the negotiations.

Betcha can't tell I sold cars for a while, huh?

You would think Porsche would update their web site with the 2006 figures, but NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

As for the porscheusa.com website, the "build your own" pages are screwed up anyway, even for MY 2005. It's not set up to prevent you from ordering duplicate or conflicting options (e.g., if you select individual options and also the "packages" that include them, you'll be charged for both) and some of the "S" options get charged at the higher "base model" prices -- like Bose with windstop for the "S" is $1,900, which is the "base" option price. Then, although I've tried it three times, you can't "save" your car selections. All in all, a sloppy effort for a company that is supposed to be a high-tech leader.

Plus, the 2006 Order Guide is not even out yet, and the only cars that can be ordered now are MY 2006. How hard could it be? Doesn't exactly instill confidence in Porsche.

Price discrepancy on 06 S

This is interesting…on my Pro Forma for my 06 the prices are a little different:

MB Special Leather Terracotta 2,525
P73 Bose System w/Windstop 1,185

I agree that the web site is poorly managed. If you look on standard features external it shows PASM is standard on an S.

I did get them to throw in floor mats and clear side markers…very generous!

Nothing like getting stuff that should already be included :)

I still can't get over the floor mats... and we only need two....
