Both my current ride and my previous 08 Cayman have about the same HP, and I would say it's plenty for the street. Sure, you may need an extra downshift to pass on the back roads, but so what?

Compared to your 98, I think either will feel substantially quicker.

Main reason to go with an S would be for resale potential.
