silver crest?
Is it possible to order a new 987 to be manufactured with a Porsche OEM crest for the hood with "silver" rather than the standard "gold" finish?
I'm thinking a crest with silver finish would look better on arctic silver or seal grey than a gold crest. I've seen silver crests, but don't know if they all were after-market modifications. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...lver_crest.jpg |
It's not in the 2005 987 Order Guide., but I seem to remember seeing one at the parts counter.
A couple of other subjective points: 1. You'd be running with three different looking crests...silver front, unpainted wheel, gold steering wheel (granted, not on the outside) 1a. You'd be forever dooming yourself to a cold bleak life of unpainted wheel caps, and even at 185 bucks, the painted caps are a huge improvement 2. I think you'd find the silver crest to get lost, particularly on the silver paint...seal gray might be ok, but I think gray isn't the boxster's best color (sure I'll take heat for that one)...and let's face it, seeing that gold crest on the hood is a large contributor to the personal satisfaction of owning a boxster. |
I didn't plan to get the painted wheel caps anyway, and I agree I for sure shouldn't get them if I went with the silver crest on the hood.
Nothing I can do about the steering wheel, right? I guess it comes with the gold-crest -- with no option for silver or for "delete crest." I want to get those "clear" side lights to replace the orange as well. I like the seal grey exterior. It's all subjective, but I think it's classy in an understated way. IOW, the car already screams "look at me" without needing any help with colors. At the same time, I'm attracted to the seal grey because I don't see that many (compared with black or silver). For a similar reason I personally probably wouldn't want the painted wheel caps -- a little too much bling for me -- although I can understand why most people think they look good. I'm not certain, but I think this might be grey paint (don't know if the digital photo "changed" the color -- could it be silver?), showing a silver-finish crest. I like the look -- relatively subtle, for a Porsche: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...twbrapaint.jpg |
looks like you got a clear bra too

That's not his car.
I got Seal Grey because it was easy to maintain, honestly, but I think it looks really good too. I have no desire to switch out for a silver badge, but if I think about it long enough I can see your logic. It would look nice and understated. |
SoCal, did you see this on the other board?
Recipient seems quite pleased....looks nice. Post header is:

Thanks for the heads up. I still like that look of a silver crest for a seal grey. It's definitely an OEM part -- my local dealership has one in the parts department display case. What I'm next interested in is a silver-trimmed center cap for the wheels: What do you think about any of these choices (for a standard Boxster S 18" wheel): Assorted Center Caps |
