leather options?
I'm not sure I understand the various leather options.
porscheusa.com lists a "full leather" option, but doesn't describe what is included, and then lists a number of additional leather options. What are your opinions about selecting among the leather options? |
only thing i can think of is the steering wheel and airbag leather and leathette available both come in various colors and are very similar personally i prefer leather.

On the 986, full leather means"
The seats are covered in leather all the way round. The standard seat just has the surfaces covered. The small dash lip in front of the driver is covered in leather. The trim above the air bag cover is leather. The air bag cover itself always comes in leather trim even on standard models. I believe that is what you get for the option. |
strongly recommend the leatherette...
I can't recommend the leatherette in a convertible strongly enough...particularly if you drive top down alot, or live in a warm sun-intensive climate (FL, CA). I drove top down constantly in CA for a number of years in my BMW e36 convertible and the leatherette does not age or show wear, it can even get wet without problem. It looks pretty good (especially on my 987 without full leather) and is attached in unobtrusive places.
That having been said, i purchased the permaplate treatment from the dealership when I bought the 987, so we'll see if that helps. The interior is guaranteed against 'environmental affects' like sun, excessive dryness and temperature. |

Sorry for my ignorance, but by "leatherette" do you mean the standard interior "leather-looking" vinyl? |
The standard seating surface in the Box is leather, not leatherette.
|
To clarify, the e36 was entirely leatherette, although it was very leather-like. The perma-plate was done to the interior and exterior of the 987, so I'm hoping it's all it's cracked up to be (or rather not cracked) in the way it protects the leather seats and any other random piece of leather in the boxster interior (which has the standard interior instead of the 'full leather option').

Please tell us more about his perma plate. What is it made out of, how is it supposed to protect leather etc.
Interesting! |
