The 993 is my all time favorite iteration of the Carrera . Now that you're done scratching the inch, I'll send one of my "assistants" over to give you a back rub if you let me borrow it ! :D
Congrats JD |
It's official...I'm completely green with envy lol. Let us know what you think after you get acquainted with the 993, VERY curious to hear your thoughts.
BTW...Nice choice on the wheels. Those original Panzer track supports will wait fine in storage for you.......... |
just me or are the pictures HUGE? "scaled to 41,154px × 50,432px"
if you have a monitor that supports those dimensions, I'm more jealous of the monitor :) |
looks spotless. Do they have Litronics? I know those conversions are pricey.

:cheers:She does look nice...enjoy, sir.

Seriously, this car doesn't have litronics. As far as the rest of the car goes it really is spotless for it's age and mileage. It's a 1997 with 64k miles on the clock. The interior is easily a 9.5 and the exterior is easily a 9. One thing I can't get over is the condition of the leather.....it's the original stuff and I've seen 1 year old leather on 10k mile cars look significantly worse. The leather must really be high quality and have been well taken care of. The car was primarily driven by a really small female for the last 12 years though and that could make a difference. My 200lb arse should tear it up quite nicely in short order I am sure. :) |

Some initial thoughts on the 993 vs. my Boxster S: The 993 feels like it's built like a tank compared to the Boxster. You can tell even in closing the doors, it just feels more substantial. The Boxster is definitely more refined in almost every way. The Boxster S feels like a modern day car, the 993 feels like an older car. That is sort of a "duh" considering my Boxster S is 7 years newer than my 993, but it goes deeper than that. The 993 is very mechanical feeling. From the way the pedals come up from the floor to the way the shifter works to the way the engine sounds, it's a bit different from anything I've ever driven. The 993 seems like the "core" of the car is very simple and very high quality, engine, suspension, brakes, even the leather on the seats. It is very light on bells and whistles and what it does have isn't that great. The stereo, power seats, heated seats, power windows, etc in the 993 don't even compare to those in the Boxster. The 993 defintely gets more attention than my Boxster did. That may be strictly because where I live the Boxster is a car you see fairly regularly while the 993 is a bit more rare. Overall the 993 just feels like it was built in another era and I can see why someone would be drawn to or not depending on what they wanted from a sports car. |
hold onto that puppy and treat it gingerly because I have a strong feeling that it will be very valueable at some point. If the original wheels are pristine wrap them up and beat on these 'updates'. I might buy a beater chair for the driver's side too and put the original in storage. Although its at the far end of the 911-993 time line these 993s are going to become cost prohibitive for most as restoration projects. The rest will be raced, or LA dismantled, that's sure to cut into supply and the availability of low cost parts. And the guys who can work on Porsches that you don't just plug into a computer for instructions on what to fix will become a rare and ageing breed -- high labor rates may come. My indy is usually booked solid. It sounds to me that your car is probably the best mix of a car with the round headlight air-cooled 911 look but still a fairly modern Porsche.
btw, Didn't the 993's use off the shelf Monroe's at one point when the company was really getting into trouble? That sounds bad but could be good for your wallet. |
MTS, the 993 looks great! I love those things.
Side note: your avatar is totally blowing the google chrome browser to bits! It's displaying as a HUGE white space every time you post. Can you fix it? Thx. |
