Your original leather is painted not "dyed", thus, believe it or not, you can sand, prep & repaint i just like any other painted surface. There are a handful of companies which will match your color with a swatch in a dedicated leather paint

Be careful. This is true only to a point. If you "sand" into the grain of your leather you won't get it smooth again. Someone seeing sanding may think 100 grit sandpaper and that won't be good here.
