To eliminate the starter being the culprit, you could simply bump-start the car to see if it still makes the noise....just an idea.

At this stage I am pretty sure it's not the starter. Pretty sure it's a chain tensioner.

What I am currently looking into what's involved with changing the tensioners and if they can be reconned.
