Leather Search

I have a 2000 Boxster with Metropol blue interior. I am looking for a piece of leather to cover the door arm rests. Does anyone have a source for this special dark blue leather? I don't need much but finding a perfert match in a craft store is difficult. Does Porsche or any of it's suppliers sell?

Good lead. I really don't want to spend that much and buy a whole hide. I continue to look a little longer. I may call them to see if they have any remnents they want to sell. If not I may have to go with a vinyl.

I would head to a local auto/marine upholstery business. They usually have, can dye or can find anything you might need.

Call a few dealerships, and see if they have any sales samples available from the customer demo area. I purchased 3 over the years to make custom leather fuse plate covers. Sand Beige, Terracotta, and Stone Grey.

You can recolor any piece of leather you want any color you want with a swatch of original. Go to an automotive upholstery shop and get a piece of leather with the right grain, then do some googling.

Your original leather is painted not "dyed", thus, believe it or not, you can sand, prep & repaint i just like any other painted surface. There are a handful of companies which will match your color with a swatch in a dedicated leather paint

Be careful. This is true only to a point. If you "sand" into the grain of your leather you won't get it smooth again. Someone seeing sanding may think 100 grit sandpaper and that won't be good here.

The man to call is Bob Budd at Classic 9 Leather in Dearborn Hts, MI. He specializes in Porsche interior restoration. I have had Bob send me leather for both my beige and gray interiors with perfect matches. He sold me large scrap pieces very reasonable. $50 to $65 bucks. I just spoke to him. He said he thinks he may have a piece of Metropol Blue. Give Bob a call Monday at 313-682-1983.
