they're made in asia and sold to anyone who wants to import them. you can find them on ebay, and also sold by maxspeed motorsports; all the same seat. they are not fia approved. i was told to stay away; they almost killed one our our citizen racers up here in bc. you can get similar, fia approved seats from status or cobra (in leather, alcantra, etc.) for just a bit more $.

I'm not putting my keister in a seat that's not FIA approved.

Like JD said, Status seats are the best option. FIA approved, supportive, and inexpensive.

I did not buy them i was just checking them out. they are a little pricey to get them in my interior color. are they really the same ones that are on ebay for 600 ? The Status seats look good but can they match my interior and i'm sure that will cost me some $$$$$$

what do you think about getting in and out of your car with this type of seat ? i don't do track stuff or auto x , although i would like to .

Recaro, Cobra, Momo, Corbeau, and Sparco also make seats that are FIA approved at reasonable prices. If you want exact custom color matched materials they cost a lot more. The best containment seat for racing is also the most difficult to get in/out of for street use.

Why choose a FIA approved seat?
They have actually been crash tested and meet minimum safety standards. Stock (DOT approved) seats and FIA approved seats have a long history of withstanding serious crash events and safely containing the occupants.

Why not choose a Chinese knockoff seat? They cost a lot less:
They have never been tested. They might be perfectly safe in a serious crash... they might not. The only way to find our if your untested seat will withstand a potentially fatal crash is to wreck your car. Essentially you are the crash test dummy.

Choose wisely.

I'd like to see those FIA tests. Do they mirror real world collisions (side impacts vs. an SUV) or are they more like a solo accident against a wall (race track type accident).

Also, there are many levels of FIA standards. The most basic isn't that safe. Put it this way I think the factory seat would be much safer than a budget $300 MOMO or Cobra seat that bend like a Pepsi can around you. A truely safe racing seat is VERY expensive using Kevlar and other materials that you'll never find a budget seat. Point is what is safe on an autcross course or track is not necessarily safer than what you've already got in your car now. An Ebay Chinese seat definitely not.

The test conditions are available for every FIA approved seat. Google is your friend if you really want to know. Each seat Mfg will provide the info as well.
