Bonus points for, in the mountains, with a 914, on the side of the road

Lol, man, that was fast. I can give you brownie points for being in the mountains, on the side of the road, with a 914, and with multiple girls, but no official points beyond the 1 for your record time post.

Ok, next challenge is on! I'll tally up the new point totals later tonight.

ProjectM96 08-17-2011 01:34 PM

I want that 914. Beautiful.

Overdrive 08-18-2011 07:01 AM

Ok, folks, here are the results to date, and not in any particular order:

tommy986: 4 points
thstone: 1 point
ProjectM96: 1 point
sasha055: 1 point
ketsa: 1 point
tonycarreon: 1 point
Lobo 1186: 1 point

Looks like tommy's got a pretty big lead, even with having to meet his own challenge to retain a point. Rules have relaxed a bit, so dig through your pics from within the last year if you can meet a challenge, or go on out and snap one.

One day gone, and Boxster next to a barn is still on the line. Who's getting the next point?

Good evening, the barn in Lempäälä Finland and the boxster.

Next: The Boxster and a stop sign.

Boxster at a stop sign

Boxster with its main competitor,
BMW Z3 OR 1st gen Mercedes SLK if you have a 986,
BMW Z4 or Newer Mercedes SLK if you have a 987

I took this pic 25 min ago.

I thought it would take much much longer for someone to reply with a barn pic.

Holy crap you guys have been busy! Awesome job. Looks like I've got to update the point tallies again (not a bad thing).

Keep it going, folks!

This picture is a 10+ on the degree of difficulty. 60 mile per hour trains don't pose for long in one spot.

I like the over spray on the VW exhaust.

ProjectM96 08-21-2011 08:08 PM

A Ferrari is a Ferrari. Lol@ over spray. I never noticed that before. People say the Dino's is not a Ferrari, but it is. And you need to be more specific. You did not specify what Ferrari models were allowed just like how I did not specify I wanted a Boxster with a "model" girl. But I let it slip by.

Overdrive 08-22-2011 05:39 AM

Ok, seems we have a bit of a concern here with the latest challenge. I've taken a look, and if it's ok with everyone else, I think we'll allow the point for the Ferrari picture and continue with the next challenge looking for a Lamborghini. If not we can discuss the matter outside of the thread.

Brownie points for catching a fast-moving train, tommy986...so, did you sit there at the crossing and wait for a train to come by? :p Very cool pic, btw, it's now my wallpaper.

Overdrive 08-23-2011 09:15 AM

Looks like we've had a couple of days pass and no Lamborghini, so unless someone comes through with a picture by tomorrow morning, ProjectM96, you'll need to supply one to retain your point. If not, then you'll lose the point and have to propose a different challenge.

If no one posts a pic by tomorrow morning, should I post my pic sometime in the afternoon?

Overdrive 08-23-2011 07:41 PM

If we're going by the timestamp on the forum, you have until 2:09PM on 8/24/11 (eastern time) to post your picture that meets your own challenge. You don't have to wait until then, you've basically got anywhere in the next 14 hours to post it up and then present the next challenge. Folks have had the last 48 hours to see if they could accomplish the challenge, so it's up to you if you want to give people the chance to still get a picture in.

Boxster with a Lamborghini

Next: Boxster at a Taco Bell or McDonalds
-This should be an easy one. I thought of it because I am craving Taco Bell right now. Also saw a 911 997 at Taco Bell the other day.

I only have this small picture I uploaded on flickr taken by 1.3MP cell phone camera. But I will try to update it with a larger picture when I get home later. Black Gallardo on top left. You can see shape of headlights. Easily my favorite Lamborghini.

ketsa 08-24-2011 10:29 AM

Easy one? Had to google Taco Bell...

ProjectM96 08-24-2011 11:10 AM

LOL, sorry I forgot there are people here from other countries. I will change it up a little. I hope you have McDonalds because that is what I am adding. McDonalds are almost everywhere.

Overdrive 08-24-2011 12:00 PM

Wow, sneaky, I was trying to figure it out...I see a TransAm, a Supra, but I had to read your description to see the lights in the corner of the picture. Hopefully you can blow that up a bit or something.

Lol, sorry ketsa, Taco Bell would likely only easy for those of us in the US, but I figure there's got to be a McDonald's somewhere near you, right? :D

New challenge: Boxster reflected in the side or rear view mirror of another Boxster

Overdrive 08-25-2011 06:56 AM

Lol, I hope he's watching, Mark, otherwise you may have to go find yourself a frozen lake somewhere. :p

Mark_T 08-25-2011 07:43 AM

It's also winter in the southern hemisphere right now, so I'm sure there is no shortage of frozen lakes in the world.

It's ok though, opening up the rules to include photos taken within the last year has given me a safety net. I know, kind of a cheap way to score a point, but I'm coming in late. :D

Just wait till you see my next challenge! ;)

ketsa 08-25-2011 08:26 AM

Sorry fellows, no frozen lakes in Finland :)

LOL no. The Fiero is a Pontiac with Ferrari 308 body panels.

The 1974 Ferrari 250 GTO is a kit car you buy. It is only the body, interior, wheels and frame. You have to come up with the Ferrari engine and transmission yourself. Some people put Ferrari Dino V6 engines in them, some put Alfa Romeo V6 engines.

Well, remember, it won't score you a second point when you meet your own challenge. Rather, it's allowing you to retain the point you got by meeting someone else's challenge. The purpose of that is so that people don't throw up something ludicrous, so they have to keep in mind that there's a penalty for putting up a challenge that they nor anyone else can meet. So if you're able to meet your own challenge you don't gain a point, but you don't lose your previous point, and you have to present a new challenge that will hopefully be something people will be able to accomplish without a lot of difficulty.

When I first read that I was sitting here scratching my head like..."frozen lake...in August?"

Mark_T 08-25-2011 11:49 AM

Yeah, and actually it might be harder than I originally thought. I've been checking southern hemisphere daily temps and there just might not be very many frozen lakes in the world right now. For some reason winter in the southern half of the planet is nowhere near as cold as winter in the north - go figure. I can change it and put out a new challenge if you like.

Overdrive 08-25-2011 12:01 PM

I think that's a good idea. Go back and edit your post with your picture if you still can and change the challenge, and then please post again with the latest challenge so those who go to the end of the thread will see it without having to search too much.

Mark_T 08-25-2011 12:41 PM

Here's another one, not as difficult but not a give-away either:

Boxster reflected in the side or rear view mirror of another Boxster

I was tempted to say both Boxsters must be in motion, but that would present too much of an opportunity for catastophe.

A while back there was thread about this guy named Michael Paul Smith who takes amazing photos of model cars. He inspired me to try this. Here is the flikr link for any that may have missed it.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/24796741@N05

So, it is up to Overdrive to either accept or reject this photo for my first point.

If it is a go, then the next challenge shall be:
A Boxster with sailboat(s) in the background.
(What did you expect with a profile handle like "Spinnaker")
I know that this may be a challenge for those whom are far from any water, but be creative, I was.

tommy986 08-25-2011 02:29 PM

It looks more real than the Ferrari and Lambo pics we've seen.

Ok, if I submit a toy sail boat?

Stroked & Blown 08-25-2011 02:29 PM

Creative shot Spinnaker

With the imminent doom of hurricane Irene on the east coast, this challenge may be easier than you think.....

As far as I'm concerned, if you can make it look good, go for it. I didn't say what size sailboat, did I?

After the hurricane passes through, some of you might have sailboats in your front yards, or what is left of your yards.

Stroked & Blown 08-26-2011 05:19 AM

my point exactly

While it shouldn't just be entirely up to my discretion to count or discount an image, so long as it meets the criteria, it should count. If someone feels a need to dispute it, they can. But you have another Boxster visible in your mirror. nobody said they had to be on the same road, or for that matter, physically there. It could have been a die cast in your hand in front of the mirror. To me, it meets the criteria.

Heck, if someone has wallpapered their garage with sailboats, that's an easy point. That's kind of the point (no pun intended there  ) of this is for people to get creative. I know the challenge creators have certain ideas in mind, but unless you get terribly specific, people are going to find ways to get their point without necessarily doing exactly what you'd expect. Also keep in mind that if you do get extremely specific, you have to be able to pull off that same challenge if no one else can, so it pays to leave a little wiggle room. ;)

That being said, I've let a few slide to keep the game from stagnating, but we do need to put in the effort to take/supply decent pics as much as possible. Nothing tiny, grainy, blurry, etc. We should clearly be able to tell that the challenge has been met.
