weird noise
 

hello to all i'm new to the board

i have a question and it is, i hear a whining noise somtimes it doesn't do it all the time, sometimes after i have been driving for awhile or when i start up, i only seems to do it when the car is stopped and i'm fixing to turn it off or right after i start it. It also only seems to do it when the a/c is on. i read somewhere that it might be emission control. any help is greatly appreciated.

Because you only hear it when the car is stopped, I'm guessing it might be the radiator fan? My car also makes a slightly high pitch(but not loud) noise when the air is on and I am at a stand still......

I don't know for sure with the Boxster, but in the 928 there is a separate fan that comes on when the compressor turns on no matter what the engine temp is. It also stays on after the car is stopped.

I've heard a fan in the Boxster that is similar in behavior. There are several fans in the Boxster system so I wouldn't be surprised.

Does it sound "bad" or not like a normal fan?

i'ts not real bad and it does only seem to happen when the a/c is on
