Front Truck / Boot won't open...when it is hot

The front boot on my '02 intermittently won't open. The issue seems to occur after a long drive or when sitting on a warm, sunny day. I try the switch inside the car and it doesn't click. The rear truck opens fine.

Any ideas/suggestions regarding what is going on would be greatly appreciated.

The solenoid is toast unfortunately. The best thing to do is to leave the frunk closed for now, order the new part, and hope you can get one more open out of it to replace the part.

It's a simple job.

Good luck! Let us know if you have any questions.

Thanks Jakekit. Do you know where I can find instructions on how to replace the part you recommended?

I'm trying to remember if I had instructions or if I just kinda did it. The short is this...

Open the frunk
Remove the four plastic half-turn screws around the front latch
Remove the plastic liner
Remove some of the frunk linning so you can get to the latch mechaism bolts to remove it
Take out the old solenoid part, it just kind of "pops" out of there.
insert new one and reassemble

There really isn't a whole lot of tricky business involved.

Same problem ... Part ordered ... Where is the emergency release?

It looks like I'm having a similar problem. I just ordered a new solenoid/actuator (996 511 127 00) from Pelican.

Right now it's hit and miss that the solenoid will activate when I press the remote/button. My issue is what if the solenoid completely fails before the part arrives and I can't open the lid anymore.

The schematics here show an emergency release

Where do I find it ... my guess is somewhere outside the car.

Thanks in advance.

My back trunk does that. Luckly the dealer is going to foot the bill for mine. 526$ for the special order parts and labor, to replace a cable and solenoid!

Good luck ;)
