looking to upgrade rims and I am at a loss..getting very conflicting info. My 98 has 205/50ZR17 front and 255/40ZR17 rear. I have been told that the car should be on 18's...I presently have the turbo rims and looking to get the 10 spoke.???

17 inch wheels are fine on this car, and anything that's not a 1997 is ok with up to 18 inch wheels, but they are by no means necessary, they are an option. Even 17s were an option, as the most basic of Boxsters had 16 inch wheels!

There are numerous sites that offer Porsche specific wheels . Even eBay can be a good resource to find new and used wheels at good prices. Provided, however, that you've been able to determine what the proper fitment for your vehicle is . Specifically, you need to take into consideration how wheel size (i.e. diameter and width), offset and tire size(s) will effect clearance .

This site seems to offer a lot of reasonably priced aftermarket wheels that are Porsche specific .

+1 on wheel dynamics. They used sell the Carrera replicas for $700. I kick myself for not buying a set to run during winter.

Those 987 turbo replicas would look nice. I think you need that Porsche clip that keeps the e-brake tied back. You should also consider weight if you are looking at other wheels, if your shocks are still original a heavier wheel will make the ride very rough, double the rattles and noise. My factory Carreras are 20 pounds, the stock 17"s were about 30 pounds. I wouldn't go any heavier. And I don't think there's any point in paying more than $1K for wheels since they'll most likely be cast alloys which will bend like a Pepsi can just like $2K fancy brand cast alloys. Forged are bomb proof but then you're loking at $800 per wheel unless there are better deals to be had on a used set.
Although for Boxster fit there aren't many choices as far as forged without going to 19" which will severely limit your tire choices and they'll be $$$$$.

If you're looking for a specific wheel - you're stuck with what you find. Otherwise the classified (for sale) section here, Ebay and Craigslist in your area almost always provide numerous less-expensive options.
