question for paint caliper experts
 

I'm going to tackle repainting my calipers. I took a look at them after cleaning the car and nearly all of them have half the clear coat missing. It's bright red in some areas and dull red in others. Should I just paint over them or should I sand, prime, etc? Also how long a job do you estimate this project to take?

also, while the wheels are off I want to paint the wheel well lining which has dulled. I once used this Dupli-color spray paint for trim on an old Volvo but that was for the windshield wiper trim. Anyone tackle this job too?

Back in January when I brought home my new to me 2000 S, I had dull spots on all 4 calipers where the clear coat had peeled. I just scraped off the peeling places and lightly sanded the caliper. Very lightly. Then shot them with rattle can high temp clear enamel. Still looks great yesterday when I took the wheels off for a brake pad replacement. The new guaranteed no squeal pads I put on in January squealed like crazy. Got my money back too.

I assume that you mean the plastic wheel well lining? Instead of spray painting it (which will get damaged very quickly) I would just clean them really well and then treat them with Mothers "Back to Black", or something similar. Careful with the cheaper stuff like Armoral which tends to suck all the softeners out of plastics.

Wheel fitting new rotors and pads I removed my calipers and gave them a good cleaning. Like yours, they had dull spots. After cleaning of all the grease and dirt, I used lacquer thinner and removed the decals and replaced them with new ones, then sprayed them with high temp clear coat, let them sit in Florida noon day sun for about an hour. Now they look new again. On the fender wells you could use Bumper Black or use the undercoating spray in a can. :cheers:
