clamshell and hood stuck down any one can help?
Hi, I'm new to this forum just bought a 97 968 I knew that the hood did'nt work however I tried to fix it today it went down no problem then when I tried to put it up the clamshell locked down and it just won't move now! It makes a little straining sound when the button is pressed but is just stuck! Can someone help me?
Is there a step by step with pictures? Loving the car by the way! :D |
Search the forum...there has been a couple of posts similar to yours. You may have a motor going out.
Also, get Wayne's book "101 Projects for Your Porsche Boxster...click link about your top or paste into your URL. http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarticles/Boxster_Tech/71-BODY-Convertible_Top_Repair/71-BODY-Convertible_Top_Repair.htm |
Thanks amigo! Ok I spent all day on this and let me say it was the most complex job I've ever tried to do in my life! That's if everything was'nt set with markers which mine was'nt!I basicly had to turn the wing things and try it then take it off and move i then try it again and then repeat that process about 60 times! By which time I'm swearing at the car and wishing we never crossed paths! But after a cup of tea and a calm down I realised I still love the car just want to hunt down the guy who designed the convertible system, because it's bloody annoying!
Anyway here's were I'm at I've got it all connected up and it does it's thing going down all nice and smooth but when it goes fully down it won't come back up and makes this really load popping sound the only way is if you get someone to lift the clamshell while another person presses the button then it comes back up any one had this before? I really would appreciate help! |
There are two plastic pins (about the thickness of a cigar) on the clamshell that fit into holes in the body. Clean them and grease them. Mine were sticking, causing them to hang up and pop, and grease fixed them.

Could be the pins, but, the motors have clam shell like gear. This has to stop at a certain point or you will go beyond that, then the top will not come back up because you gear has overshot the gear drive on the motor. There is a post hear about the same thing. Best of luck.

Ah cool! Where abouts will I find the two pins? I've greased the two sliders but iot still pops.

You can't miss them. With the top in the service position, underneath the clamshell you will see two plastic pins. Clean and grease them.
