Changing Fan Series Resistor
I just received my cooling fan series resistor. When I looked at it, there are 2 wires without any connectors, just wires that has been covered with lead solder....
Question: what do I need to do in order to change the series resistor ? Do I need to solder these 2 wires to somewhere or do they snap into place somewhere ? Do I need to remove the entire fan housing ? I just wanted to be prepared before opening up. Looking at the pictures for the radiator install, it would look like the entire fan housing needs to come out in order to replace the resistor ? Thanks for any tips. |
You have to cut the wires coming from the fan motor and splice the wires from the new resistor into them. Leave the motor wires as long as possible. I joined the wires with crimp connectors that I filled with rtv silicone to keep out the weather.
While you can change the resistor by just loosening the wheel liner, its highly suggested that you remove the bumper cover and thoroughly clean the radiators if you haven't done it recently. |
San Rensho, thanks for the tip. Hmm, kind of strange design to not make the resistor a plug in replacement.
I do intend to remove the bumper to clean the radiators and to add grills to reduce the amount of junk clogging up the radiators. |

Anyway it's not a big deal, I'll probably solder the wires, use shrink plastic insultation and silicon the whole thing for protection. |
