IMS replacement; some technical questions

This weekend, I changed IMS bearing, clutch, RMS, water pump, thermostat, belt, and repacked CV joints.

I have 60K on my '01 S, and the IMS bearing looked brand new. Also, the clutch was a Sachs, with at least 60% left on it. Makes me think both were changed by the previous owner (I bought it with 40K).

Two questions: I need to secure the crankshaft in order to tighten the flywheel bolts. I used the pin in the front pulley to secure the crankshaft at TDC. is this pin strong enough to torque the flywheel bolts?

CV boots: the ones I got from Pelican were significantly smaller than the originals. Are there different sizes between the base and S models?

BTW, the tools supplied by LN Engineering worked incredibly! The actual bearing replacement took about 30 minutes.

Porsche acutally makes a reasonably priced flywheel lock that does an excellent job, but most make do with the pin up front, a bellhousing bolt and a pry bar.

Ok, I will try it, thanks.

I actually need to hit the dealer on monday because I messed up the RMS :o I will see how much the flywheel lock is.

Part # 000-721-953-81, if memory serves (I've had mine for several years), it was about $15 or so.

Yes. The LN engineering tool will work fine for that. I used it with no problems.

CV Boots: Yes the 2001 base model has smaller boots. In fact the base axles use 8mm bolts to the transmission output shaft and the S model uses 10mm bolts, significant difference.
