Reprogram keyless entry with oem alarm?

I'm still figuring out the quirks of my 00 s. The previous owner didn't seem to know much about the keyless entry and just said that it never worked. I tried to figure out if I had the oem alarm. Here's what I found:
I don't have the M535 option listed in my hood sticker.
However, there is an M535 box under the drivers seat and dash led flashes when I lock the car with the key. I'm guessing I do have an oem alarm. What are my options to getting the key reprogrammed to work with the alarm? I heard I need to obtain the key code? How much does reprogramming usually cost? Also, how do I check if my alarm system still work?

It works the other way around, you program the car to accept the key, which requires access to a PST II or a PIWIS computer. Pricing is based upon your dealer's hourly rates.

You can try this to see if it works:

Put the top down, get out and lock the car. Reach across from outside and open the centre console compartment. Does the alarm sound?

In addition to needing a PST-2 or better, you also need:

The cardboard tag that came with the key since it has the code needed to program the alarm system to accept it. No one can provide this if the tag is lost, the remote part of the key is worthless.

The alarm system learning code. (available from the dealer if you ask nice).
