Steering Wheel Fitment Question: 997 on a 986?
I have my std Cayman steering wheel on ebay and got a question from someone today asking if it would work on a 2004 Boxster. The ebay fitment guide doesn't list it but they list it working on a GenII 987, so I'm not sure I trust the fitment guide as gospel. I got home too late to contact the dealer, so thought I'd throw it out to you guys. My inclination is it won't work since we're talking 987 vs 986, but I don't know that for a fact. Would assume the airbag wire looms are different. Anyone have any knowledge they can drop on me?
BTW... The part # is 997 347 804 03 if it makes any difference. |
The airbags are easy but the hub would need a special adapter that, to my knowledge, is not made

U importunately the 987 spline shaft is about twice the diameter as the 986. There are some adptorsrs made by VW Mexico that looks anout right but I haven't seen specs.

Thanks for the responses. Good information.
It also appears that the 986 wheel has a collar around the edge that attaches to the steering column. The 997 wheel is flat. |
Did you ever look into that Mexican beetle adapter. I'm getting close to needing to do something.. (all ready have the wheel)

I responded to the user that a collar was available and he could buy the wheel and the collar if he felt lucky. (Not exactly those words, but essentially.)
The ebay listing expired without meeting the reserve. I listed it on Planet-9 and sold it quickly for $250 to a guy in Dallas. My conversion to a sport wheel only cost me $175 - well worth it in my book. |
That'll work.
Thanks, PK |
