Tiptronic stuck in Auto
Greetings from the Emerald Isle! :)
My recently acquired late 1999 Boxster won't go into manual. Had a local Porsche specialist do some work on it recently and he temporarliy fixed the problem - told me it was a loose connection near the shift stick, but it has again stopped working. All the Tip lights seem fine - no blinking and shows me what gear the car is in as it changes in auto; it just won't go from Drive to Manual. If it's a simple fix (e.g. faulty connection) then I'd like to have a go myself but I don't know how to gain access - I guess I need to remove the centre column shift housing somehow? I'm sure the Bentley Boxster repair manual would probably tell me how to get at it but it's a bit pricey for the casual DIYer like me! Many thanks and great forum John |
Likely not the shifter, but the shift switch located at the tranny.
These are exposed and do get clogged with dirt, mud, etc. and can be cleaned. But, being a switch, these do also sometimes fail altogether requiring replacement. Not too difficult to do at all, but you need to align it carefully to get full travel and proper function. Cheers! |
Ah! That makes sense :-) No idea how to get at transmission but porsche dealer was able to do quick non permanent fix easily and a faulty switch sounds like not too big a deal so i'll take her back there to sort it out.
Ps - driving her to Stuttgart in june this year as my summer hol so want the tiptronic working for the alpine run! :-) Many thanks for the reply Lil :-) |
