2000 Boxster S: crashed

After 26 years of driving, finally got into my first wreck where I was driving. A pickup truck pulls out directly in front of me. I had about half a second to react but not enough space to maneuver. Boxster's front left, driver's door and probably major suspension damage when I got thrown off the truck and car jumped an 8" curb then car ended up on a hillside. Most likely a total loss. It's a shame too, the car ran perfectly (no oil drips and kept up on all maintenance), interior near perfect, just bought a hardtop last month, new tires and I just bought a full tank of gas 2 miles before. Engine was still running after the crash.

I'll post pics after my insurance settlement goes through. Now, what to get next? Another Boxster, 911 (pre-996), 928, 944, or just a beater for now? Will probably have some parts to sell if I don't get another Boxster.

Sorry to hear about your wreck JTP. Glad you are around to talk about it.

All of the cars you mentioned are great choices. As much as I love my 986, I wouldn't buy another one. I would buy a 987, or a non-996 911. I had a 944 and loved it, but wouldn't buy another one. I've always liked and wanted a 928.

Bottom line: Enjoy the replacement process. Drive and research all that interests you and get what turns you on.

Best of luck!

Sorry to hear that, car is likely a total loss from the sound of it, but at least you're walking around.

For me, whenever I part with the Boxster (this is my second one now), I'm holding out for a GT3 (preferably 997, but I'd consider a 996).

condolences from me too. good to see you are finding the opportunity in it, however!!!

for me i'd:

track - 951 (cheap and crazy fast)
highway/dd - 996 turbo (they are getting quite inexpensive, and the engine is strong in this one; the interior would be oddly familiar, also ...)
general weekend ripping around - spyder or cayman (r?)

or, if you wish to kick it old school

track - 73 rsr clone (the car goes faster sideways than my boxster in a straight line)
highway/dd - 993 (pretty.)
general weekeind ripping around - 87 to 89 carrera sc (best porsche ever?)

Very sorry to hear of your accident. Where in Maryland did it happen ??

If you are parting out, I'd like to claim your bumperettes and headrest wind deflectors.

Jeez, that felt like a buzzard circling the carcass.

When and if you decided to part it out PM me !

Be sure to beat up the insurance company. Definitely go for a total loss. With that much damage, even with an expert fix the car will never be the same.

Car values are an opinion, so theres lots of room to make your case with the ins. co that your car is worth more than they will say it is. Prepare a package in writing, get the highest estimates from various sources, NADA, Kelly and also include autotrader and ebay listings for the same car. If you have pictures, be sure to include those.

Good luck and sorry fro the crash.
