cigarette socket question

Hi Guys,

on my 2000 S my cigarette socket is switched, in other words it goes off when turning the ignition off. Has anyone else had this problem? From what I can read, it should be on all the time. I want to use to plug my charger into. Think the only way is to hard wire it?
