Rattle/odd noise randomly at 3000-3200rpm

Every so often, right around 3000rpm an odd rattle can be heard. It doesn't happen during typical or aggressive acceleration but only when slowly accelerating and hanging around 3000rpm. No vibration is felt but just a weird rattle sound coming from behind me in the engine area.

And it's only in 1st gear and very rarely in 2nd.
Any ideas?

Worn front engine mounts seem to move the most in that rpm range, how many miles on yours?

05 S with 21,700 miles on it. The noise is so random it's driving me crazy. I really have to go from 2700-3200 very slowly to have the best chance of duplicating the rattle.

Does the rattle occur with the top up or down ? Or both ?

Both top up and down. Definitely sounds like an engine thingy.

It could be one of the cats...also, it could the plastic piece that covers the top arm on the inside of the car. You need to move the top to service position and look at them. Porsche uses a lot of plastic and they will rattle.

My front engine mount did the vibe at 3200-ish, but only on deceleration. I put a new one in last spring and its fine now...
I never had a vibration when accelerating though with my bad front engine mount. My guess would be because the engine torque tightened it up.
