cupholders

So, what if I want the OEM cupholders for my 2000 Boxster... Where can I find them? anyone know?

Steve

I have the two side by side that came with my 2002 986S. I removed them when I installed a 2DIN Kenwood. You can have them if you want.

After having had the stock double-unit in my car, I can't believe people actually want these pieces of ********************. I tore them out, moved my A/C controls to the top where it belongs, and sold the cupholders to someone who clearly wasn't aware of how useless they are. Get an Ultimate Cupholder and put it on the passenger side. Whoever sits there gets to look after their own drink; the one in the Ultimate is the driver's!

Yeah, what he said, except I got two ultimate cupholders and put them both on the passenger side.

Don't bother with the one that fits in the center console compartment either, unless you're going to remove the lid. The thing is a real pita, plus you lose valuable storage space.

I like the one for the center console, as far as cup holder options go. Not perfect,
but the best option I've seen.

Hmm, I'm going to have to check that out. I had assumed only one would fit. Do you have to have the seat all the way back to make it work?

The later model cup holders are much better, but they sit at high center of gravity it always, ALWAYS spills my coffee with the lid closed regardless of what speed I'm driving at.

Not all the way back, but not all the way forward either.

I told my wife the Boxster is for driving and hence, no cupholders needed.

Went further and told her that if she wanted nice cupholders with a decent car attached then it would be better if she drove one of our BMW's (the ultimate latte cruising machine).

Since I was on roll, then I said that what she should really do is hold the cup in her crotch like a guy.

That's when she got mad! :D

I bought these

Best itegrated solution i could finf, hides away in the centre storage, removable too

I would check and see if Ron Popeil could custom make you a set of cup holders. And, once you've obliterated the look of your boxster, I'd see if he could retro-fit the "slice o matic" or the "pocket fisherman" to the dashboard ! :)

I agree, that's what I have.

Does anyone have experience with the Porsche OEM clip-on vent cup holders?

I'm concerned that it looks easy to break the louvers/veins of the vent.

Imho

Call me anal retentive (everyone does) but I don't like the looks of some add-on cup holder hanging from the vents or jammed between the seats. I keep a couple of cardboard cup holders from McDonald's in the frunk. On the rare occasion when I need a cup holder I have one, and the rest of the time they're hidden away in the frunk

Hear, hear !

I never knew cupholders were such a contentious issue... Since I'm interested in NOT spilling coffee in my Boxster, and I want the cup to be in easy reach but still relatively inconspicuous.... I think I'll check out the Ultimate....

Thanks for all the comments.

LOL - now ask us what the best oil for your car would be! :D

schnellman 04-16-2011 09:47 AM

Or Wax, or roof treatment, or...

Thanks for a great laugh, Mark. Good to know it's all in good fun with good intentions all around.

Now, if you had said yellow cupholders, that would have been different ! :D
