List your repairs.

I purchased my 2000 'S' last Nov with 53k miles. The guy had all the records so I transferred them to a text doc. If you combine repairs, required maintenance, 'just for the fun of it' maintenance, and mods the list is pretty darn big. I was thinking though how many actual repairs has the car had so I pulled them out and they are listed below. If there are any other nerds out there like me I thought it would be interesting to compare to see how reliable the Boxster actually is.

I would say this list in Consumer Reports terms would be about average maybe? I might post the total cost if I get time. I know at Porsche repair rates it wasn't cheap but for sure there was nothing major on this list at all! Oh I do almost all my repairs so that keeps it cheap

Repairs #1 7/5/2001 10,352
Fender Liners
Hi and Low Tone Horns

Repairs #2 10/9/2003 26,069
Replace Radio
New Battery

Repairs #3 9/14/2005 34,483
Oxygen Sensors 2

Repairs #4 9/18/2006
Warranty Battery

Repairs #5 3/19/2009 47,261
Rear CV Boots
Low Tone Horn

Repairs #6 5/3/2010 50,846
Air Mass Sensor MAF

Repairs #7 12/1/2010 53,100
Odometer Bulb (tan)
Rear Trunk Shocks
Convertible Latch Rivets
Head Light Switch (Used)

01 "S" 3.6L after one year of ownership

Put in O2 emulators to stop codes since the cats were previously removed
Replaced Front motor mount with Wevo mount
Replaced driver side front wheel well cover (missing)
Changed gearbox fluid
Replaced two rear tires (worn)
Replaced CV's and boots on both rear axles
Replaced Brake Pads and Rotors
Replaced rear window on soft top

Wow my joy to pain and suffering ratio is way up there. That list would be a month's worth for a Land Rover. Ha ha.

There's always something wrong with the car.. Luckily small things that I can do myself
In 1 Year since I got it:

Fixed all DIY:
1. Engine mount
2. Fuel Filter, Belt
3. Spark plugs + rings + tubes
4. AOS
5. MAF
6. Power steering fluid line
7. 2x Wheel bearings
8. Ignition switch
9. Collant tank cap

Will have to pay a lot for it:
10. On tuesday: Tires + straightening of the wheel

Regular maintenance:
1. Oil + coolant + filters
2. Battery
3. WAX.. a lot of it!

Upgrades:
1. Clear side markers
2. 997 shifter console
3. Turbo style hand brake
4. HID kits
5. LED tail lights

I think that's all

Battery, headlights/bulbs, fender liners - those things aren't repairs in my book. It's a ~12 year old car, and fender liners should be a lifetime item unless someone is picky or trashed them somehow.

A repair, to me, is something mechanical that no longer does its job and does not have a distinct shelf-life.

I picked up my 99 Box in July from my father. I know he had:

1. Coolant expansion tank cracked

2. Horn goes off on its own (I fixed that with 3 business cards and haven't looked back)

Since I got it, I've done:

1. Front motor mount

....

That's it. I've also done a 60k maintenance, but that's not a repair. Nor is an oil change, tires, etc.

What I haven't done yet:

1. My thermostat has one drip of coolant on the bottom that has not yet made it to the floor. Fix it when it leaks alot more or if it fails.

2. One spark plug tube/o-ring is leaking a tad of oil, not enough to hit the floor but enough to stain the black. When I swap onto summer tires, I'll replace that tube and o-ring.

....

I consider that record pretty damn good on a ~12 year old german sports car.

Interesting, the usual stuff, not all repairs, some "because I wanted to" in there, I have a lot of those, though the joy of these cars is doing this type of preventative maintenance/repairs. Actually when I look over the lists folks posted it generally isn't something that would have scared me away if I had come here before buying my car. It does seem like there are some odd things that go, like my head light switch, but I think that is just more age then anything.
Joe is right, not sure why I put fender liners in my list, that was the fault of the previous owner and I'm sure warranty didn't cover that...clearly not something breaking down, more like something damaged.
I do think I might have a big repair coming up though, my clutch has been like new but today something happened with it, I'll probably be posting soon on it, need to check with a friend first.

Derb, ok dang! I think though with that mileage probably could classify some of those as just wear and tear. Those 3 biggies IMS, RMS, Clutch you did as preventative right?

What mileage were you at when the following took place:

VarioCam solenoid valve
Coil Pack
Alternator
Starter
Water Pump- with snapped bolt

Bought mine last September with 42k, has 46k now. Had an oil leak when I bought it, so took it to Porsche the next week and had the RMS, oil fill tube and a few spark plug o rings replaced specifically, and they replaced all other seals/gaskets involved in the process while they were in there. Replaced all bolts during that process and oil change as well. That's all.

:edit: oh, and a headlight.
