MAF or O2?
I have a CEL and weird rpm revs around 2k rpm and hesitation when mashing the gas. I recently had a seal replaced that was said to be the cause of the bank codes. I havent run the recent codes to see if they are the same I need to pick up a reader. Ive read a lot and it seems to point to behavior that would require O2 sensor replacments. Could this be a MAF sensor issue and not O2? I know the specific codes would help but I dont have them as of now. I know it was showing codes for both sets of banks recently. Any help.is appreciated.

Get the new codes. Anything else is just a shot in the dark.

I stopped at Auto Zone and got my codes. Now Im concerned.
P0740- Torque converter/clutch or transmission
P1128- Unknown
P1130-Unknown
I have a 2001 Tip with 99K on the Odometer
I've called my local shop and Im taking in in tomorrow morning. I'm going to look up the codes when I get home shortly. I'm guessing this won't be an easy fix?!

Looks like P1128 and P1130 are the same errors I had before getting the seal fixed. Could this be a bad MAF? How is the P0740 related?

My 99' had a CEL with P1128 and P1130. It had a wicked hesitation around 2k from time to time that would jolt the car. MAF was bad.
Best bet dude instead of just throwing parts to it. Go to a reputable shop around town. Ask them to diagnosis it. If they say its the MAF,order it from ************************************************************ and you can swap it out on your own.

I had the 1128 and 1130 codes. Removed and cleaned the mass air flow with cleaner. Codes are gone and have stayed away for quite some time. Worth a try.

I'll give it a shot tonight. I'm still planning on taking it in tomorrow morning.

From Loren over on Renntech:
"P1128 Oxygen Sensing Adaptation, Idle Range, Bank 1 – Above Limit
P1130 Oxygen Sensing Adaptation, Idle Range, Bank 2 – Above Limit
Possible fault causes:
– Incorrect signal from MAF sensor
– Intake air system leaking
– Fuel pressure too low
– Volume supply of fuel pump too low
– Fuel injectors fouled
– Exhaust system leaking
Bottom Line - in most cases we are looking at an air leak or a bad MAF. If the MAF is bad then it is sending the wrong signal to the DME.
P0740 Torque converter clutch, excessive power consumption
This is a CAN bus reading that is sent to the instrument cluster. I've seen this often from wheel spin.
I would reset this one and see if it comes back under normal driving."
Disconnect the MAF and if the car runs better, clean or replace the MAF.

Removing mass air flow requires a tamperproof t-20 torx bit.

What makes it "tamperproof"? I've never heard of torx referred to this way.

the tip of the torx bit has a hole in it. The torx bolt has a pin in the centre so a regular torx bit will not fit

Yes, this is very important. You wouldn’t want a gang of Porsche hoodlums breaking in your garage and changing out your MAF sensors! This tamperproof torx will confuse the hell out of them, and let you sleep well at night!

Yes.
Or you can remove the torx screws with any common needle-nose pliars match them up to proper phillips head replacement screws, and then deposit the silly torx screws neatly in the trash where they belong. Some day my car will be completely torx free.
Note to OP: To test the MAF you don't need to remove it. Just disconnect the wire connector and drive the car.

Well im waiting on a flat bed. Lost all power with rpm shooting way up. D and 4 flashing. I was driving across town to get it to the shop.
Update: It will be at the local Indy shop first thing in the morning. No night drop so the tow co is holding it overnight. I appreciate all the suggestions and ill update once I know what the issue is.

Sounds like it's in limp mode. As for the maf, I would change it. I had the same codes, minus the tranny code and it ended up being the maf. It was jerking and doing very similar things. Bought the tamper proof torx bit from autozone and it was a 5 minute repair.
